Director Boggs Honors Winemaker

Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Robert Boggs presented Nick Ferrante, of Geneva, with an award honoring his late father, Ohio wine visionary, Peter Ferrante.
rnrn“Ferrante Winery is one of Ohio's oldest and largest wineries, producing thousands of gallons of quality wine each year,” said Boggs. “Peter Ferrante was a visionary behind the winery and restaurant, and his efforts have helped lift Ohio's wine industry to its current national and international status.”
rnrnThe Ferrante family has been making Ohio wine since 1937 when Nicholas and Anna Ferrante started the original winery in the Collinwood area of Cleveland. In 1979, Peter Ferrante moved the winery operations to its current location in Harpersfield Township. He established a restaurant in 1989 to showcase their international award-winning wines. A state-of-the-art winery operation and tasting room now adjoins the facility.
rnrnNick Ferrante is a former member of the Ohio Grape Industries Committee, chaired by Boggs. Established in 1981 by the Ohio General Assembly, the Grape Industries Committee works to create viable, income-producing grape enterprises in the state of Ohio by providing marketing and promotion efforts to generate and expand new markets for grapes and grape products and conducting research to improve the quality of grapes and profitability of grape growing as an agribusiness.
